Spartans Impress at Senior Bowl Practice

As many of you may know, the senior bowl practice is well on it's way and our Spartans are impressing many. Click read more to view a few thoughts from scouts.

Charlie Bernstein of ESPN/Fox Sports: "Kirk Cousins has been very impressive early in this practice. He looks like the only #NFL QB on this roster."

Scott Kennedy of Scout.com: "#michiganstate's Kirk Cousins throws the ball with a different velocity than Russell Wilson and Kellen Moore. Much stronger arm out here."

Kennedy again: "Kirk Cousins just thread the needle to Gerrell Robinson. Cousins is having a very good day, as is Robinson #Spartans #sundevils"

Wesley Bunting of National Football Post: "#MichiganState QB Kirk Cousins was a solid 6-2, not real imposing, but , reminds me physcially of Andy Dalton #SeniorBowl #NFLDRAFT"

Bunting again: "Have to admit #MichiganState QB Kirk Cousins looks like a flame thrower in comparison with Russell Wilson and Kellen Moore #SeniorBowl"

Benjamin Volin of The Palm Beach Post: "Michigan St QB Kirk Cousins has an absolute cannon, and Marshall DE/OLB Vinny Curry is playing like a beast today"

Tony Pauline of Sports Illustrated: "Kirk Cousins (QB/Michigan State) has shown the best arm of any signal caller on the North and it's of legitimate NFL strength. He's powered the ball into the tight spots and has challenged the hands of his receivers.

Shane Hallam of draftcountdown.com: "#seahawks scouts talking with QBs after practice. Kirk Cousins and Kellen Moore. #SeniorBowl"

Alfie Crow of SB Nation Tampa:"#Jaguars also spoke a bit to Vinny Curry and Kirk Cousins"

Wesley Bunting of National Football Post: "#MichiganState QB Kirk Cousins with nice bucket throw during team session, spins it clean with nice touch #seniorbowl"

Dion Caputi of National Football Post: "#MichiganSt QB Kirk Cousins looks comfortable in drop-backs and in the pocket. Some people have toyed with Andy Dalton as a comparison."

Rick Pizzo from BTN: "Early practice thoughts from #SeniorBowl : Wisc punter Brad Nortman just crushing every kick. Kirk Cousins' arm strength really impressive"

Rob Rang of CBS Sports: "Cousins out-shined Wisconsin's Russell Wilson and Boise State's Kellen Moore by attacking all levels of a talented North defense. His experience in a pro-style offense was obvious as he made quick decisions, showed accuracy short, middle and deep and thread the needle through tight spaces. Whereas his teammates struggled to find a rhythm with their new receiving corps, Cousins was hitting on all cylinders, spreading the ball all over the field and hitting his backs, tight ends and receivers on a variety of routes."

Looking at the North roster, Cousins clearly has been the best quarterback, compared to the undersized Kellen Moore and Russell Wilson. Moore has not been looking good at all. It will be curious to see how much playing time Cousins gets Saturday compared to the other two.

Pizzo also said that Brian Linthicum did not dress Tuesday after being impressive yesterday. He did not say why. I did not see Trenton Robinson on the broadcast, but some teams talked with him after practice.

Anwar Richardson of MLive said the Lions talked with Robinson and Shane Hallam of draftcountdown.com said the Saints did as well.

Pizzo talked with Cousins and other Big Ten athletes, and the interviews will be on the Big Ten Football Report tonight at 7:30 p.m.

Bret Bielema, never one to miss a media opportunity, talked over the phone with the NFL Network guys during the broadcast, pumping the five Badgers there. Mark Dantonio and some other Big Ten coaches are there, but weren't as public about their support for former players in Mobile.

More Pizzo: "#SeniorBowl Kirk Cousins and Kellen Moore alternating snaps. The difference in velocity and arm strength is shocking."

More Pizzo: "#SeniorBowl Kirk Cousins has me convinced that he will be a productive NFL starting QB. He's making every throw look easy."

More Pizzo: "And we are hitting for real at #SeniorBowl as Trenton Robinson makes a nice read to stop a cut back run"

More Long: "TE thoughts: #Mizzou Egnew is the most physical, #MSU Linthicum needs to set his blocks better, and #UMass Igwenagu is quickest.#SeniorBowl"

Tony Pauline of Sports Illustrated: "TE Brian Linthicum of Michigan State sat on the sidelines yesterday, but looks terrific this morning. He moves incredibly well for a big man and is smooth in and out of his routes."

Scott Wright of draftcountdown.com: "It seems as though Kansas City Chiefs Quarterbacks Coach Jim Zorn may be a fan of Michigan St. QB Kirk Cousins, pointing out that the Spartan puts nice touch on his passes."

Joe Fortenbaugh of National Football Post: 7 on 7: Kirk Cousins goes 5 for 6 with only miss coming on a deep 9. Some check downs, some nice intermediate completions. #SeniorBowl"

Tom Pelissero of ESPN Twin Cities: "Michigan State safety Trenton Robinson performing well here. Not a big guy but good balance, instincts, doesn't take many false steps."

The MSU Football Players Association (MSUFPA) is an organization that was formed in midyear 2004 and was given its birth by Head Coach John L. Smith. It wasn’t until the beginning of 2005 that the association got functioning, but when it did a strong force was created within the family of Spartans and a tradition had begun. The purpose of the Association is to perpetuate the Spartan football tradition and to enhance the success of the MSU football program. Our goal is to sustain a working relationship and to provide a network of communication to link the membership with the existing football program.
